"This Little Light of Mine"
SUNDAY RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN
This catechetical instruction for children ages 3 years to 16 years and attending private or public schools is held weekly. After attending a special Liturgy of the Word appropriate for them that is conducted during the 9:00 AM Sunday Mass, the children return to the main church where they bring up the Gifts and gather around the altar for the Consecration. After the Mass, children and their parents gather in Casserly Hall for refreshments, followed by catechetical instruction until 11:15. Many parents remain during the instruction time and have developed a very vibrant social group, while other parents use this hour to run those errands that never seem to get done during the week.
Our instructional program uses the Faith FIrst series published by Resources for Christian Living (RCL Benziger) and is based on the four pillars of our Catholic Faith: Creed, Liturgy and Sacraments, Christian Morality, and Prayer. The program uses the "spiral" approach to learning. Beginning in Pre-Kindergarten and continuing through High School, the children continually visit these four essential areas of their faith with ever deepening intensity from year to year.
We also have speical Sacramental Preparation classes for children about to receive First Eucharist and Reconciliation, as well as Confirmation. In addition, we offer training for any of the children who would lilke to become Altar Servers. All children are welcome. All registered parishioners are invited to have their children participate.
We are grateful for all of the diverse participants in our program - our beautiful children, their loving parents and guardians, our devoted catechists and volunteers who give so generously of their time and talents every week in order to provide our students with the love and commitment that serves as a living example of Christian beliefs, and the wonderful pastoral staff who support us in all we do! We are a family together in Jesus.
